Nancy Pelosi is so badass

Says our illustrious Speaker of the House:

“President Obama has said that a public option will keep the insurance companies honest. If someone has a better idea for promoting competition and reducing health care costs, they should put it on the table,” Pelosi said. “But for the past month, opponents of health insurance reform have demonstrated that they are afraid of the facts. They have only offered distortions, distractions and misrepresentations to try to kill this historic legislation.”

“A bill without a strong public option will not pass the House,” Pelosi said. “Eliminating the public option would be a major victory for the insurance companies who have rationed care, increased premiums and denied coverage.”

Totally awesome.

Grandstanding.

She knows as well as everyone else that "healtcare reform" won't go anywhere.

Too many politicians, Republican and Democrat alike, take far too much money from the insurance companies to allow anything of serious impact to happen.

Obama will leave office in 3 years with a legacy of big words, big promises, and small results, and big debt.

This plan, which was meant to be his flagship, will end up sinking his approval, and ensuring that the Republicans could run nearly anyone up against him in 2012 and win.

i think it still takes guts for her to make these kinds of statements.

Grandstanding? Perhaps, but also 100% spot-on.

The bizarre exaggerations and fabrications that the republicans have proffered in opposition to reform indicate to me that they truly HAVE no better ideas, and that they ARE afraid of the facts.

The dishonesty with which they have handled this issue has actually shocked me. I thought nothing in politics could truly do that, but the way (R)s have endorsed either explicitly or with a wink-and-a-nod the "death panel" and fascism bollocks and other blatant falsehoods has shocked me.

Kudos to Pelosi for telling it like it is.
